Hiking in the Zugspitz Arena

A big benefit for guests of our hotel: Free guided walks with our own mountain guide

A holiday in the mountains really does come true in Ehrwald. It's almost as if you can touch them from our hotel. The magnificent peaks of the Wetterstein Range, the Lechtaler Alps and the Mieminger chain fascinate climbers, hikers and nature lovers alike.

Discover with our own guide the most beautiful tours in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena as well as in the surrounding area.

Gamsalm hike

This time we stay in "home territory" and explore the Ehrwald surroundings, getting a wonderful overview of the whole valley basin:

first we take the Plattenweg towards the Zugspitzbahn, where we turn left at the halfway point and take the somewhat more direct (steeper) ski slope route to Gamsalm (there are also 3 other varieties ;) ) Gamsalm is a real "MUST" for our guests, as it is very well managed ("best Kaiseschmarren in the valley basin" O-tone of many guests) and offers a beautiful view of the valley basin despite little effort. After a short stop at Sabine (hostess of the alpine hut) we follow the high-level trail towards Koppensteig (if you are less ambitious you can choose one of the many routes to the direct way home to the Alpen Residence) where we then arrive at the valley station of the Ehrwalder Almbahn. Finally, you can visit the BIEZU (refreshment area with panoramic terrace and farm shop selling regional products - opening hours from Thurs. to Sun. from 14.00 hrs to 18.00 hrs) and take the meadow path (insider tip) to the hotel.

Fernstein Seen hike

with short refreshment

We would like to start with our Komoot hiking guide with a perfect tour to "get in": The Fernpass Lakes Tour

First by car to the Weissensee car park above Biberwier in the direction of the Fernpass, then along the Weissensee and following the cycle path to the Blindsee turn-off. Then cross the Fernpass federal road and descend through the woods rather steeply with stunning views of the largest lake on the Fernpass. Here, depending on the temperature, you also have the opportunity to refresh yourself and take a jump into the cool water. Afterwards the hike leads us over a small saddle to the Mittersee, the smallest and warmest lake of our hiking tour. At the end of the lake, a path leads us back to the starting point. After the hike we recommend the Restaurant Talblick at the middle station of the Marienbahn. In addition to the spectacular view, you must try the unique Zirbenschnaps (Swiss stone pine schnapps). We wish you lots of fun.

Hike to the Tuftalm

including viewing platform

The hike to the Tuftlalm with its 500 metres in altitude is certainly not very easy but can be described as moderately difficult.

The easiest route starts from Lermoos (entrance from the north (Ehrwald), also easy to reach by bus through the campsite to the Lusspark, then over the railway crossing to Kohlbergsteig. The Kohlbergsteig is actually only a steeper shortcut of the route from the Lermoos side up to the alpine pasture. This gives us the possibility to either use the road (less steep and idyllic, but longer) or the path, which is a welcome alternative through the shady forest. Once you reach the platform, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the valley basin and its mountain panorama. In the traditional alpine pasture, which is managed, you can get authentic Tyrolean food from Graukas to Kaiserschmarren at the Klaus Hut. You descend the Kereltalsteig and either walk over the moss back to Ehrwald or take the panoramic path back to your starting point so that you can take your car with you if you wish.

Hike to the Gamsalm

our favorite Alm

The Gamsalm hike is a must for every visitor to Ehrwald. The view over the valley basin and the good accessibility make the Gamsalm a hotspot among nature lovers. This time we ascended from the Hotel Alpen Residence in Ehrwald over the ski slope to the Gamsalm. Of course we treated ourselves to a spectacular Kaiserschmarren on the Gamsalm. We returned via the Plattenweg directly to the hotel door.

The hike took 2:30 and with 300 meters of altitude difference it is perfect for the first hiking trip on holiday. We wish you a nice hike.

Our hiking guide

recommends you the right tour

Our hiking guide not only knows every alpine pasture and every stage from hut to hut but also the best hiking routes around the Zuspitze, Sonnenspitze and in the whole region from the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. Thus, in addition to easy stages through the Moos or to the Seebensee, you will also find difficult hikes such as to the Coburger Hütte or to the Sonnenspitze. For all climbing routes we recommend the local hiking and mountaineering school - so you can explore the Zugspitze from its most beautiful side.

Of course our hiking guide is also available for your private hiking routes. If you need information and tips on hiking in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena, he will be happy to help you.

A highlight of our hiking programme is always the lake hikes. Not only will you hike the most beautiful mountain lakes in Tyrol, you will also learn a lot about the Zugspitze and the history of Ehrwald, Lermoos and Biberwier.

We divide the hikes into different stages (from easy to difficult) so that you can hike in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena according to your personal condition. An important point for difficult hikes is stamina - so there are always enough breaks at alpine pastures and huts along the way so that all hikers can reach their destination.

Our hiking guide will inform you separately about all more extensive hikes, which are somewhat more difficult and extensive.

The most beautiful hikes in our region are:

Seebensee (1657m):

The Seebensee has been awarded several times as the most beautiful mountain lake. So the Seebensee is not far from the Ehrwalder Alm (mountain station). The Seebensee is a must for all romantics and is recommended as an easy introductory hike.

Cobuger hut (1917m):

More demanding hikes with impressive panoramic views. Here you can experience the entire Tyrolean mountain scenery and feel like being in touch with nature. The refuge is located directly above the Drachensee lake, embedded in the Mieminger Alps. The Coburger Hütte has a large sun terrace. The cuisine of the Coburger Hütte is traditional and more than adequate. The hike to the Coburger Hütte is a perfect day trip.

Tuftlalm (1496m):

The idyllic Tuftlalm is situated at almost 1500m above sea level above Lermoos. The alpine pasture has been a highlight of our hiking programme for years and a fixed point for our weekly programme. In only 1.5 hours you can reach the Tuftlalm from Lermoos on various hiking routes. Highlight is the nearby viewing platform with a breathtaking view over the mountains of Tyrol. Of course, not only hikers are welcome at the Tuftlalm - bikers, e-bikers and climbing enthusiasts also enjoy the traditional Tyrolean dishes and above all the indescribable view. The other hikes to Daniel, for example, are worth every step. In just 2 hours you can experience one of the most spectacular views of the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena.
